Having read “The Zen Man” I’ve been keeping tabs on Colleen Collins’ work, hoping for more Rick and Laura. When I saw this I snatched it up right away. Best purchase I’ve made all week.Rick is a wonderful character, as is Laura – they complement each other very well, like a well-oiled machine, even in the earlier stages of their relationship portrayed here. What I love about Rick is that he’s very layered. Not your stereotypical strapping hero by any means, he’s flawed, sarcastic and smart as a whip and made all the more compelling for it. Laura is his balance, the voice of reason, and also very intuitive. While anyone else would probably balk at a romantic weekend spent at a coroner's conference, for Rick and Laura, this setting was entirely fitting. And they approach it, and the mystery before them, with the same aplomb, intelligence and savvy we were privy to in the “Zen Man”.
Fantastic read, wonderful characters, and told with a dry humor that really serves to compliment the story, Colleen Collins’ has delivered another gem with the “The Ungrateful Dead”. I highly recommend it!

Good quick read
My only complaint is that this is a short story.
Really enjoyed "Zen Man" also, and recommend both to those who enjoy mysteries.
Not too serious, not to deep. A fun and quick-to-read mystery with a Columbo type of ending. On to The Zen Man.
As far as I know, The Dead picked the band's name out of a dictionary.
Anyway, I wasn't all that impressed. I hope The Zen Man is more interesting.
Excellent, funny and informative novella especially for Deadheads. Believable characters and great story line.
I may re-read this story and I always look forward to other works by this author.
Not too deep but well written. every day dialog -believable scenes. Takes place in Colorado, but the location wasn't intrusive of the story. I liked it. Can't wait to start Zen Man. Hopefully other books to follow.
This book and the Zen Man were a departure for me but I really enjoyed both stories.
The characters are well done and the retro 70s theme going through the stories was well done.
