Experience Norway is part of the Experience series from travel writer Len Rutledge. They are well named, for Len's flowing colourful writing is easy to read and very descriptive resulting in a true experience of the destination. Norway came alive for me in the easiest way; sitting in an armchair engrossed in the beautiful scenery and the culture of Norway. It is many years since I was in Norway and my memory was vague on detail, but it was sheer enjoyment to revisit the destination and reexperience it in much more detail. Many books designed for the traveller can be quite boring as they seem to be simply a collection of facts. This is a great read full of colourful enjoyment. Definitely a 5 star experience.

This is the third Experience Guide that I have read and, as with the others, it is straight forward and easy to read. The various areas of the country are covered by road trips and you get a good sense of place as you follow Rutledge on his travels.
If you plan to drive around Norway this book is invaluable. You will still need a good map or GPS system but the book information covers some history, social facts and tourist advice on where to go and what to see. The accommodation information covers mainly up-market and mid-market places and includes some personal recommendations on smaller places missing from most other books.
If you are not sure if Norway is a place you want to visit, this book will change your mind. The author is clearly impressed by the country and his enthusiasm will rub off on you. He takes the reader to all the well-known attractions and many small less-known places as well. Along the way you form a respect for the country and its people and there are enough facts to let you decide which area has most appeal to you.
The book is not a one-stop-shop on Norway but it is essential reading for anyone planning to visit or who has a particular interest in the country’s diverse attractions.
